Your open-source guide to India's new Solid Waste Management Rules.

Status: The Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 are effectively live as of April 1, 2026.
Mission: To help Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs), and citizens navigate the new "Polluter Pays" mandates without incurring penalties.

🛑 Critical Updates

  • Mandatory Segregation: All waste must now be separated into 4 Streams (Wet, Dry, Sanitary, Domestic Hazardous) at the source.
  • No More Mixed Waste: Municipalities are authorized to refuse collection of unsegregated waste.
  • Liability Shift: Housing Societies and Commercial Complexes are now legally responsible for the "End-of-Life" processing of their waste.
